What apron feeder width do I need?

It depends on line throughput and on the size of the objects in the waste. As a guide, 1 metre for 10 to 20 tonnes per hour, 2 metres for 20 to 40 tonnes per hour and 3 metres for 40 to 60 tonnes per hour. If bulky waste appears in the flow, choose the next width up even if throughput alone would not require it.

How does it differ from a rubber belt conveyor?

A rubber belt is cheaper and suits already shredded, relatively clean material. An apron feeder is built for raw, wet and abrasive material and for direct loader tipping. At the plant inlet, where waste drops from height in buckets of several tonnes, a rubber belt gets cut and steel slats do not.

Can the feed rate be adjusted while running?

Yes. Speed is controlled by a variable frequency drive, so the operator can raise or lower the line load from the panel, with no stops and no mechanical adjustment. It is the simplest way to balance a plant when the waste composition changes.

How much fine material is lost underneath the conveyor?

The slats overlap precisely to limit this. A small amount of dust and very fine material remains, which is handled by a collection casing under the conveyor. Compared with an open scraper conveyor, the loss is significantly lower.

What maintenance does it need?

Periodic checks of chain tension, lubrication of the joints and inspection of the slats for wear or deformation. Slats can be replaced individually without dismantling the whole conveyor, so a local repair does not take your line out for long.
